Steptoe Valley Inn is an oasis in America’s Great Basin outback, enhanced
with spruce and fruit trees that provide shade to an old fashioned rose garden
with gazebo, birds, swing, and croquet court. Originally built in 1907 as the
Ely City Grocery, Steptoe Valley Inn was completely reconstructed in 1990.
Great care was taken to include details from elegant Victorian cottages.
Evident throughout the Inn is extensive use of hand painted accents, decorative
wood trim, tile mosaics, marble thresholds, tasteful lighting and plumbing
fixtures, elegant brass hardware, high embossed ceilings, and etch and stained
glass. Guests will enjoy relaxing in the library or the TV reading room, living
room or large upstairs veranda.
The 5 uniquely decorated guest rooms, named after “Ely City”
pioneers, are located on the second floor. All have ceiling fans, individual
air conditioning/heating units, cable TV, lace curtains, and private baths. Each
room has a private balcony. The McGill room faces Squaw Peak and the
Nevada Northern Depot. Decorated in pastel shades, it has a white iron queen
bed. The Requa looks at the Depot through trees and lilacs. It is a
comfortable and cozy room with queen size bed. Bartley and Gray is the
northeast room overlooking the Steptoe Valley and the railroad. It has natural
pine twin beds. The southwest room called Nunnelly, decorated in
cool misty green and white, features front windows and a pencil post, honey pine
queen bed with a quilt and fishnet canopy reminiscent of early America. The
southeast room, Gunn and Thompson is at the back of the building with
views of the lawn and roses. Sunny and cheery with it sparkling white wicker
furniture, it has both a queen and twin bed.
Each day your innkeepers, Jane and Norman plan a special entree. A typical
day might begin with oven baked Dutch Baby pancakes, maple syrup, and sausage
and fresh fruit.
Ely is nestled in high sagebrush desert (6,253 ft.) below Pinyon and Juniper
covered foothills and high mountains with Bristlecone Pine, White Fir, Quaking
Aspen and bubbling mountain streams. Enjoy cool nights, scenic countryside, the
